A passionate and exuberant individual who has dedicated 40 years of her life to Education! After having taught Grades VIII to XII she truly found her passion when, 24 years ago, for the first time she entered an Early Years Classroom as a teacher.
In the year 2004, she got an opportunity to set up and be the founder principal of ‘Indira Kids’ – Pune, which within a year of it commencement became one of the most preferred schools. She had the opportunity to get trained by senior Professionals from Singapore’s Eton House International Preschool and interact and observe Reggio Emilia facilitators when she became the founder principal of ‘Vivero International Preschool’. Subsequently, she set up and headed the first seven centres of ‘The learning Curve Preschool’ Pune.
She championed the cause of young children by creating a rich, engaging, Play Based Curriculum. Her innovative approach and consistently evolving global teaching practice helps teachers deliver this dynamic curriculum with ease. Having been inspired by Reggio Emilia she paid great attention to the classroom environment as “Environment is the Third Teacher” – Loris Malaguzzi, in the National and International Pre-schools she pioneered. She has a knack of combining her innate people skills with her scholastic skills to create educational solutions. All her learning helped her effectively integrate various teaching philosophies and techniques to train her teachers to positively reach every student in the class in their learning journey.
Keeping children’s safety and parental ease in mind she had created, in the preschools she headed, a parent’s forum to network and assist during emergencies for quick response and smooth functioning.
She has successfully conducted Professional Development Programs to empower preschool teachers on effective and innovative ways of classroom teaching and management, on-going continuous assessment of students, report writing and communicating with parents. This has transformed teachers who have later gone on to become Principals of various schools or are now successfully running their own Pre-schools.
“Nurturing, warm, and responsive parent–child relationships and parental participation in child-centred activities relate to positive learning outcomes in early childhood.” With focus on this belief she effectively conducts workshops to support and guide parents to confidently navigate the often demanding marvel that is parenthood.
A life-long learner Purnima keeps expanding her knowledge base by on line research and attending workshops and seminars. This gives her the latest research based, greater and deeper understanding of growth and development of young children.
To reach out to and share her knowledge with a larger body of educators she become a member of Early Childhood Association and is now a committee member of ECA – PCMC Territory. She voluntarily conducts workshops for Anganwaadis and municipal schools and regularly volunteers at Nutan Baal Shikshan Kendra – Kosbad.
2015 saw Purnima take on a new role as a freelance preschool Mentor, Consultant and Trainer. Her purpose was to reach out to all stake holders – Parents, teachers, schools and organisations working for pre-schoolers – to create an environment in the society where children will thrive to become the best version of themselves and look back to their childhood with fond memories that will gladden their heart. In this short period of time she has already consulted and mentored to provide solutions to 15 schools in Pune, Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.
