Kusum Kanwar

Kusum Kanwar is an established K-12 educationist, social entrepreneur and advocate of child, youth and women development programs, particularly designed for social inclusion. Kusum is currently Principal, Billabong High International School (Santacruz) and the Managing Director of one of the most prominent preschools in Mumbai, KK Kids Learning Systems (KKLS), Kandivali (E). Within two years of her spearheading KKLS, it became the only preschool in the Western suburb (beyond Andheri) to be ranked among the top 13 preschools in the city by the reputed EducationWorld India Preschool Rankings Survey 2014. She is also the Chairperson of ‘Shield Yourself Foundation’ (SYF), a self-defense and empowerment organisation for women and girls from across socio-economic backgrounds. Kusum is the Mumbai Convenor of ‘Chuppi Todo’ – a leading organisation fighting against child abuse. Encapsulating her life’s mission as ‘Co-creating Education’, Kusum counsels reputed NGOs for developing sustainable, 360-degree development programs to foster inclusive growth for women and children from marginally deprived communities. In the last decade of association with foremost school education chain KKEL (Kangaroo Kids Education Ltd.), Kusum was pivotal in restructuring the processes at BHIS Malad, now known as among the top city schools. She also established and successfully integrated one of the city’s first special needs education programs, including programs on Teacher training & Empowerment, Quality review & assessment, Curriculum Planning & Implementation, Development & Integration of Sports & Performing arts. Kusum’s cross functional expertise includes Strategy Development, Resource Allocation, Revenue generation, Multi-location operations management, Team &Relationship management, Low cost high impact marketing, Unit location direction & Start-up execution.
