Jehan Manekshaw is the Founder Director of Theatre Professionals. He is also Founder and Head of School at the Drama School Mumbai.
For Theatre Professionals, Jehan consults with school management and academic leadership to design and implement strategic roadmaps for integrating drama into the schools’ everyday teaching and learning culture. Implementing programs like skilling teachers for creative play in the pre-primary, Using Drama for Skills and Curriculum in the Primary, socio-emotional-development in the Middle School and using theatre as an exam subject in Senior School. Over the last 12 years, 50 schools across India and 1000+ teachers have been equipped with methods that remain in continued practice even today.
For the Drama School Mumbai, Jehan leads design and implementation of the school’s one-year full-time Post Graduate course in Acting and Theatre Making, working in collaboration with 35 of India’s most highly qualified theatre practitioners, the course is now in its seventh year of running with 90+ alumni all working successfully in theatre, film, and TV
Jehan has taught as guest faculty at several universities including Ninsasam Theatre Institute, Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, Shinshu University, Japan, and the National School of Drama’s Theatre In Education division in Agartala. He also has directed numerous plays in different languages in India, the US, UK, and Japan.
For his contribution to the Indian theatre sector, and the use of theatre in education, Jehan has received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, an award conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi – the Indian government’s apex body for performing arts and culture. Jehan is a Fellow of the 2019 class of the Kamal Nayan Bajaj Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
