Anil Swarup is an Indian author and retired Indian Administrative Service officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, 1981 batch and retired in 2018. Swarup in his 38 years of career has served in various capacities and later went on to become the Secretary to the Government of India.
Mr. Swarup handled policy issues relating to school education in the country and promoted the use of technology to improve the quality of education. He also encouraged the engagement of NGOs to build public-private partnerships with a view to leveraging good work being done in respective domains. There was substantial growth in NGO participation in the delivery of quality education.
As secretary, Ministry of Coal, India, he brought about structural reforms in the coal sector that enabled the transparent auction of coal blocks in the country. The coal sector was brought on track with an unprecedented increase in coal production that eased the chronic shortage of coal in the country.
Mr. Swarup is the author of the book “Not just a Civil Servant” which was released in February 2019.
